Palworld genetics explained

How Palworld genetics work. Understand IV inheritance, passive skill probability, and what to breed for the best stats.

Quick answer

Palworld genetics determine how stats and passives are passed from parents to offspring. IVs (individual values) are inherited with some randomness, and passive skills are drawn from a shared pool contributed by both parents.

IV inheritance

Each stat's IV is inherited from a parent with a probability that depends on the stat. High-IV parents generally produce higher-IV offspring, but the result is not deterministic. Breeding two high-IV parents raises the chance of a high-IV offspring, but there is always some variance.

Use the IV calculatorto check your Pal's current IVs and plan your breeding strategy.

Passive skill inheritance

Each parent contributes its passives to a shared pool, and the offspring randomly receives a subset. The probability of inheriting a specific passive depends on the parent's passive pool size and the offspring's slot count.

Chain breeding — breeding multiple generations to lock in specific passives — is the most reliable way to get the exact passive combination you want.

Breeding-power stat explained

Breeding power (rank) is a hidden stat that determines the offspring's base stats. The offspring's rank is roughly the average of the parents' ranks. Breeding two high-rank Pals generally produces a higher-rank offspring.
