Palworld breeding guide: how breeding works
Complete Palworld breeding guide. How the breeding formula works, how passives inherit, and the best combos for 1.0.
Quick answer
Breeding in Palworld combines two Pals at a Breeding Farm to produce an offspring. The offspring's rank is roughly the average of both parents' ranks. Passives are inherited from each parent based on a probability table, and unique combos can produce Pals not available in the wild.
The breeding formula explained
The core breeding formula in Palworld is based on the parents' breeding power (rank). The offspring's rank is approximately the average of the two parents' ranks, with some variance. This means breeding two high-rank Pals generally produces a higher-rank offspring.
However, the exact formula includes hidden modifiers for IVs, passive skills, and mutation chances. The 1.0 update added mutations as a new layer of complexity to the breeding system.
How passives inherit
Each parent contributes its passive skills to a shared pool. The offspring randomly receives a subset of these passives. The probability of inheriting a specific passive depends on the parent's passive pool size and the offspring's slot count.
Chain breeding — breeding multiple generations to lock in specific passives — is the most reliable way to get the exact passive combination you want.
Best breeding combos
The best breeding combos depend on your goals. For combat, focus on high Attack IVs and offensive passives. For work suitability, look for passives that boost work speed and stamina. For stat optimization, breed parents with high IVs in the stats you care about.
Use the combos list to search for specific combinations, or the path finder to plan a chain from the Pals you already own.
Setting up a breeding farm
The Breeding Farm is unlocked at Technology level 19. You need a Cake (Flour, Red Berries, Blue Berries, Milk, Eggs, and Honey) plus 7 wood and 5 stone to build the farm. Assign one Pal of any kind to the farm to start producing Cake.
For efficient breeding, set up multiple farms and assign Pals with high work suitability to speed up Cake production. This lets you run more breeding cycles in parallel.
